چکیده

A three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model was developed to simulate the motion modes of the human middle ear structures. The model was based entirely on 3D reconstruction obtained from micro Computed Tomography (microCT) imaging. We solve the acoustics-structure interaction problem using COMSOL Multiphysics. Our results show that at low frequencies, the classical hinging motion is dominant, as expected. However, at high frequencies, we observe multi-resonance vibration modes at the eardrum and a biological bevel-gear like response at the malleus-incus complex. This suggests that the middle ear motion modes and dynamics are determined by the special anatomical features (saddle shape of the MIJ, asymmetry of the eardrum, and cylindrical malleus shape in larger mammals) and the three-dimensional inertial properties of the ossicles, and the twisting mode of the malleus and incus are required in larger mammals, like humans, in order to reduce the inertia due to ossicle mass.

Effect of Suctioning of the Middle Ear Effusion on Hearing Condition Before Ventilation Tube Insertion

Abstract OME is a Common disease in children. over than 90% of children in preschool ages experienced this disease once at least. Despite medical therapy about 10% of the OME patients won't improved and these are the group of patients who referred to as chronic OME patients. Insertion of VT in TM is an accepted therapy for these patients and during surgery for insertion of VT, suctioning of mi...

Middle Ear Salivary Gland Choristoma: A Case Report

Salivary gland choristoma of the middle ear cavity is a very rare condition. These lesions are a result of a defective embryonic development and their adjacent structures may be associated with abnormalities. Here we report a case of salivary gland choristoma of the middle ear who presented to Be’sat Hospital, Tehran, Iran in 2015 with unilateral conductive hearing loss. There are 41 case repor...

Middle Ear Exploration Results in Suspected Otosclerosis Cases Referred to Amir-Almomenin and Golsar Hospitals, Rasht, 2001-2011: Are Ossicular and Footplate Area Anomalies Rare?

Introduction: Otosclerosis is a disease of bony labyrinth. Structural changes in the labyrinth often cause ossicular fixation, and thus conductive hearing loss. The purpose of this study was to evaluate middle ear exploration findings and frequency of ossicular and footplate area anomalies in patients with suspected otosclerosis referred to Amiralmomenin and Golsar Hospitals in Rasht, Iran.   M...
